Saying Numbers

Saying Numbers
Cardinal Numbers
This are regular numbers that we use to make Math operations. They express quantities. They are said with the name of the number.
12       twelve
35       thirty
389     three hundred eighty-nine
6,790 six thousand, seven hundred and ninety

Ordinal numbers
Ordinal numbers express order. The first three have specific names. To the rest we add the ending “th”. Examples:
1st first                       2nd second    3rd third
4th fourth      5th fifth                      10th tenth      28th twenty-eighth
21st     twenty-first  22nd twenty second           25th twenty fifth
30th     thirtieth        40th fortieth 100th one hundredth

Years
Numbers that express years, only identify a moment in time, so when we say them in a way that they are easy to identify. Here are some examples:
1400  14/00             fourteen hundred
1826  18 / 26          eighteen – twenty-six
1504  15/ 04  fifteen – oh- four
1031  10/31   ten – thirty one
2017  two thousand seventeen  or  20/17  twenty – seventeen

Phone Numbers and Other Digital Numbers
Phone numbers and other identification numbers are considered digital numbers. That is, we say them one by one. This is done to avoid confusion.

844-745-6801            eight-four-four-seven-four-five-six-eight-oh-one

Notice that when you have a zero (0) you say, “Oh”.
When there are two numbers that are the same you can say, “Double”.
